The College has recently updated its Language Fluency Policy. The changes, approved by Council, come into effect on December 1, 2026.
The Registration Regulation requires applicants to be able to speak, read, and write either English or French with reasonable fluency. The College’s fluency policy sets out the ways in which applicants can demonstrate that they meet this requirement.
Some of the key changes to the policy include the following:
- Educational documentation submitted for language fluency purposes no longer needs to be notarized.
- Two years of post-secondary education from a public college or university (rather than a full undergraduate degree), taught in English or French, may satisfy the requirement.
- Applicants who take one of the College-approved fluency tests will require scores equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5, instead of CLB 7.
- The option for applicants to have an interview with the Registrar will no longer be available as of December 1, 2026, regardless of when their application for registration was submitted.
Language fluency is an exemptible requirement. As outlined in the policy, applicants who do not have reasonable fluency in English or French may still become registered to practise if certain conditions are met. Please review the Language Fluency Policy for more details.
